In short, as a species, we are SICK!

Chronic Illness

Chronic illness is now so prevalent in our society that we are now the sickest species on earth and what’s more worrying is that this has all happened within the last hundred years.

When we talk about chronic illness, we’re talking about conditions like cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity.  We now have more people suffering from these conditions than we have ever had before in the history of our species.  So with all the modern advances in medicine to combat these problems, why are we seeing more of this now than ever?

Lifestyle

The answer is simply our lifestyle.  As mentioned above, the explosion in these chronic illnesses has only occurred in the last century.  It’s not genetics, it can’t be, a century isn’t a long enough time for our genes to change to such an extent that our entire species becomes more susceptible to chronic illness, so ultimately it all comes down to the way we live.

Our lifestyles have changed massively over the last century.  So much so that according to Eaton et al (1988), chronic illness is now killing 80 percent of the industrial world.  That’s lifestyle induced chronic illness, NOT genes.

Staying Well

So the way to get well and stay well is to make changes to our lifestyles.  It is pure fact that the greatest precursor to the development of chronic illness is the lifestyle choices one makes, so once we understand that what we eat and how much we move affects the expression of our health, we can start to make inroads into ensuring that you’re getting the most out of your body as is possible.  Thereby giving the best chance of living a long, happy and healthy life.

That’s why here at Complete Health Clinic, as well as being your Chiropractor or Physiotherapist, we can also help you to optimise your body’s internal environment through advice about nutrition, exercise, dietary supplements, ergonomics, posture and a whole host of other topics.
