When you call up to book your Initial Consultation with one of our Chiropractors, Chris or Charley, you will be asked for your contact details along with booking in both Visit 1 and Visit 2 to the clinic.
This is because Visit 1 is where your Chiropractor will go through a full consultation with you along with a comprehensive physical exam. Visit 2 will be where they will go over their findings and make their recommendations. At the end of Visit 2, your Chiropractor will offer you your first Chiropractic treatment (as long as they have deemed this safe and the correct course of action).
The fee for the Initial Consultation will cover both Visit 1 and 2, up until the point you wish to have any treatment. This will then be charged at the follow on session rate.
For a more detailed explanation of what to expect, please read below.
Â
When you call up to book in for an initial consultation with your Chiropractor (Chris or Charley), you will be asked for all of your contact details that we need to open a file for you. This is all very basic information and nothing will be asked about what has prompted you to come into the clinic and no personal details will be requested about any conditions. This will be for you to discuss directly with Chris or Charley in the consultation.Â
You will be asked to book both visit 1 and visit 2 in on this initial call.
This is where you will be asked to attend the clinic 15 minutes before your appointment time in order to fill out a form. This will form the basis of what you and your Chiropractor discuss, and they will review this before meeting you. Chris or Charley will take you through a full case history of not only what has brought you into the clinic (your presenting complaint) but will also go over a full medical history. Â
They will also go through a number of lifestyle questions as well, which allow them to obtain a more complete picture as to what might be causing some of the issues you are experiencing.
Chris or Charley will then go through a thorough physical and neurological exam with you. Don’t worry, you are in charge here! You won’t be asked to do anything that causes you to increase the pain you might be in. They will also perform a full posture alignment check. At times, it may be more appropriate to request you change into a supplied gown. All underwear will remain on at all times.
By the end of Visit 1, your Chiropractor should have all of the information that they need to sit down later that day and to review your full case history and examination and determine if they can help you.
When you return to the clinic (usually within a few days as long as that works with both your diary and Chris or Charley’s availability) your Chiropractor will give you their feedback. This is called your Report of Findings (ROF). In the ROF, your Chiropractor will explain how the body should be working, how your body is working at the moment, and what needs to be done to bring these 2 situations back together again.Â
They will make sure you have a firm understanding of what this is going to take and, if appropriate and safe to take you on as a clinic member, set out a treatment plan. They will explain what this might look like for the short, medium and long term. They will also refer you to other health care professionals should this be more appropriate including our own Physiotherapist, Gemma. Â
Sometimes, your Chiropractor may feel that a combined approach might be best where they will involve Gemma especially to utilise her specialist rehabilitation and strengthening skills.
Once you have all of this information, it will be up to you how far you want to take things. Of course, you don’t have to decide this there and then. You can go away and consider what’s best for you. This decision can also change over time as circumstances etc change.
It is at the end of the ROF that your Chiropractor will offer, as long as safe and appropriate, to give you your first treatment. Follow on treatment sessions will involve Chiropractic adjustments (where appropriate), various styles of soft tissue techniques, home exercises and stretches along with relevant lifestyle advice that has been identified that could speed up your recovery and decrease the likelihood of relapsing again. Chris and Charley always encourage questions as they feel the more you understand, the more you are going to get out of your sessions with them. The fee for the Initial Consultation will cover both Visit 1 and 2 up until the point you wish to have any treatment. This will then be charged at the follow on session rate.
